Academic excellence
An award of up to NZ $6,000 for international or domestic students undertaking masters study relating to the Southeast Asian region.
The intention of the Award is to encourage and support students to undertake masters study at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland in areas relating to the goals of the Nicholas Tarling Charitable Trust to advance research, knowledge and understanding of the Southeast Asian region. To be paid the Award, awardees must be enrolled full-time or part-time in a Master of Arts, Master of Conflict and Terrorism Studies, Master of Global Studies, Master of Public Policy, Master of Commerce or Master of Science that includes a dissertation, thesis or research portfolio of at least 45 points where the research will advance knowledge of the Southeast Asian region.

The basis of selection will be academic merit as assessed by the grade point average (GPA) or grade point equivalent (GPE) calculated over the most recent qualifying programme (see Note III), the quality and nature of the applicant’s research proposal, and the applicant’s financial circumstances and potential for future growth in the field of Southeast Asian Studies as assessed by a personal statement.
