Extension for Childhood Education certificate holders: This extension will allow students to teach grades 7, 8 and 9 in a subject area. In addition to successfully completing EDU 7106 and 7107, students must have 30 credits completed (C or better) in one content area and must pass the New York State Content Specialty Test (CST) in the same subject area to complete the extension. The School of Education’s Certification Officer will review all transcripts during the application process to assess whether or not the content area coursework has been satisfied for the extension.Secondary school teachers are qualified for a broader range of positions. Hiring teachers with such flexibility is especially appealing to principals who are starting new small middle schools and schools with a 6-12 model. Since there are currently as many as 856 middle schools in New York State, the employment opportunities for teachers possessing middle school certification expand exponentially.

Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not attended a postsecondary institution in which English is the language of instruction must provide TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores for admission.

Applicants who have taken the SAT can have the TOEFL/IELTS requirement waived

Applicants who have attended an American high school abroad or an American university can have the TOEFL/IELTS requirement waived

International students are encouraged to submit their application for admission and all required credentials by May 1 for fall semester admission and November 1 for spring semester admission.
