Public relations is a management function that focuses on the strategic communication of messages in the media through news releases editorial content and promotion. Public relations is concerned with two way mutually beneficial communication between an organization and its public. Our students work with local clients on real world communication problems. Seniors created a public relations campaign for the University of Memphis football team to inspire school spirit and student attendance at home games they helped the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity to launch a young professionals group. There are many opportunities to get involved and gain practical experience while in the PR program. PR students serve internships at local organizations like St. Jude and FedEx while others work at agencies like Archer Malmo and Obsidian PR. Students may also choose to become involved in the Public Relations Student Society of America or the Meeman 901 Strategies student run strategic communication firm to network and develop relationships with industry professionals.
