The Associate in Arts in Communication Studies 2.0 for Transfer degree will equip students with a solid understanding of communication theories, decision-making strategies, and practical application of communication activities in a variety of environments. Communication Studies is a social science that views communicative behavior as central to human activity: to individual development, interpersonal relationships, and the functioning of political, economic, cultural, and social institutions. The Associate in Arts in Communication Studies 2.0 for Transfer degree will provide students interested in pursuing a baccalaureate degree in Mass Communication or Communications Studies with the lower division coursework required to transfer into the CSU system. Upon successful completion of the AA-T in Communication Studies 2.0, students are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Students transferring to a CSU campus that accepts this degree will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor's degree. The AA-T may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus or to a university or college that is not part of the CSU system. The associate degree for transfer AA-T requires completion and certification of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (CalGETC) as well as the specific AA-T major degree requirements. Students should work with a counselor to identify major coursework that can be used to fulfill CalGETC categories and for more information on college-specific transfer program requirements. Pursuant to SB1440, section 66746, a student must complete the following requirements in order to earn the Associate in Arts Degree for Transfer: • Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University (CSU), including the CalGETC GE requirements • A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis • Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0. • Minimum grade of ''C'' (or ''P'') for each course in the major, and • Completion of CalGETC GE requirements.
