Advance Graduate Certificate in Coaching

Stony Brook University's online Advanced Graduate Certificate in Coaching program prepares students to become New York State certified athletics coaches. The curriculum consists of three graduate-level New York State Education Department (NYSED) approved coaching courses plus three additional advanced courses that examine a broad range of issues that impact the coach in today's educational climate. These include learning theories, social and psychological issues, principles of organization and administration, kinaesthetic theories, injury care, and exercise and nutritional considerations.PROGRAM REQUIREMENTSThis 18-credit program consists of 6 three-credit courses, distributed among the areas listed below.REQUIRED COURSESNYSED courses required for certification:CEP 507 Philosophy, Principles & Organization of Athletics in EducationCEP 513 Health Sciences Applied to Coaching: Care & Prevention of Athletic InjuriesCEP 520 Theory and Techniques of Coaching: Sport-Specific Practicum (prerequisite: CEP 507)Additional courses required for the AGC:CEP 502 Principles of CoachingCEP 514 The Study of Human MovementOne elective course (see below)
