The Master of Arts in Applied Economics (MAE) program teaches students to use the tools of economics to tackle pressing socio-economic problems in our society today. Students will learn how economics informs policy in a variety of fields, including regulation, health care, environmental policy, poverty, and labour issues. Students may complete a concentration in either Policy Analysis or Environmental, Resource and Development Economics. This program trains students to investigate important questions such as MAE students become proficient in economic analysis, and learn how to apply this knowledge to contemporary economic policy issues in Canada and abroad. They learn from dedicated faculty who conduct cutting-edge research in these areas. MAE students must complete a total of 24 credit hours to graduate from the program. Students are required to take five core MAE courses (12 credit hours). The remaining 12 credit hours may be completed from a set of elective courses in economics and related fields, or from a combination of economics courses and a faculty-supervised research project or practicum. The MAE Program is normally completed over the course of one calendar year. Students may choose to pursue a general degree, or to complete a concentration in either Policy Analysis or Environmental, Resource and Development Economics.
