The Education Studies Major is taken by all students enrolled in undergraduate education degrees offered by Sydney School of Education and Social Work but is also available as an area of study to students who do not wish to become teachers but are interested in knowing more about education. Providing foundational study in education, the Education Studies Major will introduce you to the study of education, with specialist units on sociological perspectives on education, psychological perspectives on education, Aboriginal Education and Special and Inclusive Education.In their third year, students can choose a specialist unit from areas such as psychology of education, creativity and education, global and international education, the contexts of education in Australia – Aboriginal Community and Country. Offered on a rotating basis, selective units include: child development and educational neuroscience Mentoring in Educational Contexts Creative Ecologies – Pedagogies and Praxis Aboriginal Community-led Education and Sex, gender and sexuality in education.In their final year of study, students will complete the FASS Interdisciplinary Impact unit and the Education Capstone Unit.From the first semester, you will benefit from in-school experiences, beginning with interactions with small groups of primary students and culminating in the fourth-year professional experience when you will be fully competent to teach with minimal supervision.Be part of a vibrant education community that mentors students to become confident, skilled teachers and future leaders engaging in critical and reflective practice to meet the challenges of our global community.The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is an undergraduate degree that provides you with a professional qualification to teach in a primary school with children aged five to 12 years.You will complete core units in education and professional studies and a major in education studies, with the option to complete a primary teaching specialisation in your final year. You will undertake professional experience throughout your studies alongside your coursework.
