The Vietnam Merit Scholarship recognises exceptional postgraduate applicants from Vietnam who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and strong ambitions. It is designed to support postgraduate students whose initiative and drive will propel them towards excellence in their academic journey and future careers.

In order to be eligible, applicants must:

• Be classified as an overseas fee-paying student 
• Hold an offer to study a full-time postgraduate programme commencing in February 2027
• Be self-funded (you must be paying for your studies independently rather than being sponsored or in receipt of another scholarship)
• Be a Vietnamese passport holder residing (living) in Vietnam;
• Have achieved or expected to achieve the equivalent of a UK Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1) degree (GPA 7.0/10.0)
• Not be a student from the Surrey International Study Centre (SISC).

*Excludes part-time and distance-learning programmes, MSc Applied Analytical Chemistry,  MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences, MSc Biotechnology, MSc Human Nutrition, MSc Food Science, and the MBA course.

The award is not deferrable (if applicants are deferring, they will need to reapply for the award. This will also be subject to the award availability).

Applicants in receipt of the Vietnam Merit Scholarship are not eligible for any other University of Surrey scholarship. This scholarship cannot be combined with the alumni or early payment discounts.

For two-year postgraduate courses, the scholarship award is valid for the first year only.
