Governors State University’s Master of Science in Nursing offers several outstanding post-baccalaureate program options that will prepare you for your future as a highly educated advanced practice nurse or for leadership roles in nursing. Our nursing programs focus on providing quality, holistic care creating healing environments and building caring communities. The GovState nursing faculty includes Advanced Practice Nurses, nurse executives, seasoned educators, and doctorally-prepared researchers who provide students with an exceptional education.The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) meets your needs as a working nurse through flexible hybrid courses. Choose from four concentrations to tailor your academic interests to your professional goals: Nursing Executive and Innovative Leadership, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult/Gerontological Health, Family Nurse Practitioner, or the post-masters Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate. The MSN and BSN nursing programs in the College of Health and Human Services are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

All applicants must:

  • have earned (or will have earned by the term they wish to enroll) a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university,
  • have been in good standing at the last institution attended,
  • have satisfied collegial and/or major criteria, if applicable, for graduate study in a specific major

International Students must meet the university language requirement for admission to the university. Applicants must take either Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Pearson Test of English (PTE).

  • For the IELTS, applicants must meet the minimum acceptable score of 6.0 academic version.
  • TOEFL Exam scores: Paper - 550; Listening - 55; Reading - 54; Writing - 58; Computer Internet - 213; Listening - 21; Reading - 24; Writing - 21; Internet (iBT) - 80: Listening - 20; Speaking - 20; Reading - 20; Writing - 20.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Exam score 53: Listening - 53; Speaking - 53; Reading - 53; Writing - 53.

Deadline: May 1st for Fall & Oct. 1st for Spring
