Practice psychology in diverse environments. Engage in substantive training through a scientist-practitioner model to integrate psychological theory and research methods into your practice. In this program, you'll study combined approaches to promote the development of individuals, families, groups, and larger social environments using empirically supported, culturally sensitive interventions. Through coursework in ethical decision making, professional standards, and multicultural awareness, you'll harness specialized experience to push your career forward and empower positive change. The Combined Counseling/School Psychology Ph.D. program was first "accredited, on contingency" by the American Psychological Association on April 6, 2017, and subsequently received full accreditation in 2021 with its next site visit scheduled in 2031.

Admission requirements Individual program admission requirements over and above admission to NAU are required. Completion of bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or closely-related field prior to enrolling in the program; or a master's degree in counseling or psychology; or educational specialist (Ed.S.) degree in school psychology prior to enrolling in the program. Students admitted with a bachelor's or master's degree who do not have the prerequisites below will be expected to take these courses early in their programs: Group Counseling/Group Dynamics EPS 661 Human or Lifespan Development EPS 580 Graduate or upper-level Undergraduate courses: Psychological or Educational Statistics EPS 525 Applied Behavior Management EPS 606 Research Methods EDR 610 Special Education ESE 548 Essay/Letter of Intent/Personal Statement, GRE revised General Test for applicants with a GPA lower than 3.00. If you have a cumulative GPA of less than 3.00, you are required to submit official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test scores on the aptitude portion (verbal and quantitative) of the GRE taken within the past six years. Scores, if applicable, must be received by application deadline for admission consideration. Admitted students are expected to have undergraduate educational experiences, including general education studies, that are similar to those required for a baccalaureate at Northern Arizona University. Applicants who have earned their degree(s) from an international institution must submit official transcripts directly from the university or college. The transcripts must be in the original language of the country accompanied by an English translation.
