Relying on a balanced approach to both research and teaching, Lehigh’s PhD in Business and Economics program focuses on the fields of health, labor, industrial organization, applied macroeconomics, and applied econometrics. It aims to prepare students for careers at colleges and universities, non-academic research organizations, business enterprises, and government agencies. In addition to the core requirements from a traditional program, there is increased emphasis on the application of economic theory and econometrics.Only seven to nine students are admitted every two years to the selective program. As a result, classes are small and students are able to work closely with faculty.Lehigh's Ph.D. in Business and Economics is a full-time program in economics offering fields of specialization in health economics, behavioral and experimental economics, applied econometrics, empirical macroeconomics, and labor economics. Focusing on the applications of economic theory and econometrics, the training of our program prepares students for careers in academia, research institutions, private industries, and government agencies. We have placed our recent graduates in tenure-track positions at research and teaching institutes, post-doctoral positions at top research universities, and consultant and analyst positions in healthcare and financial sectors.

Most of our programs are GMAT/GRE-optional.
In order to be considered for admission as a regular graduate student, the applicant must satisfy at least one of the following conditions: have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.00 (note: College of Education GPA minimum is 3.0); have an average of at least 3.00 for the last two semesters of undergraduate study; have a graduate grade point average of at least 3.00 for a minimum of twelve credit hours of graduate work completed at other institutions; or have successfully satisfied the probationary conditions as an associate graduate student
a bachelors degree from an approved institution with an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 (applicants with undergraduate GPAs below 3.0 may be admitted with the approval of the department in which they wish to take courses); or 2) evidence that the applicant is presently a student in good standing in an appropriate graduate program at an approved institution; or 3) evidence that the applicant has received an appropriate graduate or other advanced degree from an approved institution.
Essay - As part of the application process, we require all applicants to submit an essay. This essay is an essential component of the evaluation process and provides us with valuable insights into your thoughts, experiences, and motivations.
Your resume or CV should list your education and relevant coursework, academic achievements, computing skills, and any research experience. The resume or CV should be uploaded in the online application.
The GMAT or GRE test score is Optional
Unofficial transcripts are also acceptable for application review.
A minimum of two recommendation letters, preferably three, are required for the application. You will enter your recommenders' information through the online application. Once complete, a web link will automatically be emailed to the recommender.
