The undergraduate degree in voice at the UC College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) offers excellent training with the faculty of one of the premier voice/opera programs in the country. Emphasis is on the development of skills: technical, linguistic, musical and academic. Fundamentals of good vocal technique are instilled through basic art song repertoire. With increased maturity, more demanding repertoire is introduced, including arias from operas and oratorios. Singers must learn to perform in a variety of languages: at least English, Italian, German and French. One year of grammar study is required in each foreign language, as well as additional study of diction. Musical skills and understanding are developed through participation in choral ensembles, music theory and music history classes.
