Environmental chemistry is the study of the chemical processes that occur in nature due to activities by humans, from soil to water to the atmosphere. Through field and laboratory work, environmental chemists attempt to understand how chemicals move through the environment and impact it, as well as human health. They take measurements, interpret data, and do computer modeling. To prepare students for careers in environmental chemistry, the Department of Chemistry at Pittsburg State University offers a four-year Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Chemistry and Emphasis in Environmental Chemistry.
