History students study how humans have understood their world-politically, economically, culturally, and in other ways. In Lewis University’s bachelor’s degree program in History, you will develop strong skills in communications, problem-solving, and critical thinking. These are skills that employers are looking for. The History Department offers hands-on opportunities to explore education, public history, and other professional careers. The Department of History features a fully approved History program that prepares candidates to teach grades 9-12 in Illinois public and private schools. The program is approved by the State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board in conjunction with the Illinois State Board of Education and includes all the requirements for a major in History. History majors in this concentration must declare majors in both History and Secondary Education. See advisors in the Department of History and the Department of Education for specific approval and a list of required courses.Teacher Candidates seeking a Professional Educator License with a History Endorsement must complete all requirements of the Department of Education (p. ) and the following coursework in the content area as well as professional education courses. Only grades of ''C'' and above are acceptable in professional education courses and in any courses counted toward any endorsement or license. A ''C-'' or lower grade will require that the course be repeated.
