The Cambridge MFin is a one-year, full-time post-experience masters degree taught at Cambridge Judge Business School. Designed in consultation with the banking and finance industry, the course provides first-class training for ambitious and successful finance professionals wishing to strengthen their existing knowledge of finance. The programme consists of core courses, a range of electives covering the main areas of applied finance, live projects which enable the integration of theory and practice, a weekly networking opportunity within the City Speaker Series and a number of summer activities.

Educational aims

The Cambridge MFin provides an academically rigorous and commercially relevant programme, enabling finance professionals to consolidate their existing experience and develop their future careers in finance. The programme has access to a strong network of finance practitioners and institutions to help deliver its goal. The MFin degree also comprises non-financial material which enables students to broaden their experience at Cambridge beyond finance, develop interpersonal skills and engage in various career development workshops.

The programme aims to provide a rigorous and intensive training in finance for students with strong academic qualifications and experience in professional finance. Gain a thorough grounding in the core concepts, a deeper understanding of applied finance and the chance to integrate theory and practice.

Teaching methods

The MFin programme consists of core courses, a range of electives covering the main areas of applied finance, projects which enable the integration of theory and practice, a weekly City Speaker Series seminar and a number of summer activities.

Teaching is typically delivered through formal lectures, supported by classes and workshops, and supervised group and individual projects.

Assessment methods

Assessment is achieved through a mix of written examinations, essays, projects and presentations. The assessment methods vary on elective courses, with some courses using a combination of methods. Students are assessed by individual and group written assignments and presentations with a fixed word limit. Core courses are mostly assessed through a single examination.

At least a high UK 2:1 or equivalent. Any degree subject is potentially eligible. If you did not study a finance-related subject at undergraduate level, on rare occasions, you may be required to submit a GMAT or GRE score to demonstrate your quantitative ability. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions Team once you have submitted your application. A minimum of two years’ graduate work experience in a core finance or finance-related role. English proficiency: English as your native language or IELTS – 7.5 with no element below 7.0 or TOEFL – 110 with no element below 25 or CAE minimum score of Grade A or CPE – Grade A, B or C, minimum score of 200 with no element below 185.
