At the graduate level, the Department of Mechanical Engineering offers thesis-based MASc and PhD degrees in widely varying areas of specialization depending on the student’s research work and supervisor. The program offers research directions in core fields such as solid mechanics, thermofluids, control and aerospace, as well as in multidisciplinary areas of focus such as microfluidics, smart and multifunctional materials and biomedical optics.To engage engineers who wish to broaden their scope and professional impact, the department has created the possibility for students to take courses from two premier professional schools at York- Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business.
