This graduate program stream provides the opportunity for advanced study in research and practice to support the needs of students with exceptionalities. This includes students with learning disabilities, emotional and behaviour disorders, sensory impairments, communication disorders, intellectual and physical disabilities, chronic health conditions, or students who are gifted. Practices that promote inclusion, resilience, and the developmental health of exceptional populations across multiple contexts (e.g., school, home, community) are emphasized.This program applies psychological theory and research to learning and instruction. You’ll use evidence-based practices and learn how to support specific educational needs. You’ll choose one of our focus areas: learning, development and instructional sciencesmeasurement, evaluation and computer applications (not currently accepting students), special educationThis MEd degree is project-based. We also offer a thesis-based MA degree, which we recommend if you want to pursue further education.Students in the LDIS Stream will: examine, critique, and apply contemporary research in human learning, self-regulation, motivation and development, apply psychological sciences to evidence-based practices across diverse instructional contextscritically read, interpret, synthesize and evaluate research, communicate scholarly information in ways that are accessible to colleagues, clients and communities, gain in-depth knowledge of scholarly theory and research in a chosen area of focusdevelop research competency and experience
