The earth sciences deal with the history of the Earth and its life, especially the history recorded in rocks. The Department of Earth Sciences gives students the theoretical and instrumental expertise needed to tackle many resource extraction, mineral processing and environmental problems. The transition from fossil fuels to renewable resources and understanding the implications on Earths changing climate are global issues which require a combined earth- and environmental-science based approach. Earth scientists are integral in evaluating climactic changes and environmental impacts of resource development. he University of Manitobas Department of Earth Sciences - in the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth and Resources - has embraced the unique opportunity to train the next generation of geoscientists to tackle these complex issues.
