If you are interested in the relationships between the environment and society and want to learn about landscapes and people, consider studying geography. Geography is about place and space. It studies the interdependence among regions, natural systems, physical features, society, and cultural activities. Using a ''spatial'' perspective, it aims to form a coherent understanding of Earth. People with geography skills apply what they know successfully in a wide variety of fields. Our recent grads have embarked on careers in urban and regional land use planning, conservation and resource management, mapping, geographic information systems and remote sensing, parks and recreation, teaching and research. Students have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience through a practicum course, with applied academic training in geography to a project on or off campus. Others work closely with faculty to pursue their interests in a specific field of geography in a Directed Studies or Undergraduate Thesis course. Students must declare their intention to pursue this degree to the Department Chair as early as possible after completion of 30 credit hours of university courses and at least 12 credit hours of geography courses. Honours students are required to meet with the Department Chair prior to acceptance into the Honours Program to review entry requirements and to plan their specific program of study. Honours students are required to maintain an overall grade point average of 3.00 in all Geography courses throughout the program. Each Honours student will be evaluated in May as to maintenance of eligibility and overall performance. A student failing to maintain eligibility will be removed from the Honours program until such time as the student meets the 3.00 GPA required for the program. The Department of Geography offers concentrations in Environmental Studies and Geomatics. The concentrations satisfy the core degree requirements in Geography but prescribe a specific suite of courses and options in lieu of the general Geography electives.

Both work and academic terms are full-time and follow a formalized sequence. The total amount of co-op work experience is normally at least 30 percent of the time spent in academic study. A work term is defined as a minimum of 12 weeks and/or 420 hours full-time paid experience. The Work Experience Stream consists of one work term. The Co-op Stream consists of two or three work terms.

All full-time Brandon University students in good standing and enrolled in a degree with a declared major in one of the participating disciplines are eligible to apply for admission to the Co-operative Education Program (which includes the Work Experience Stream and the Co-op Stream). International students are eligible for work permits that are valid only for co-op employment arranged through the co-op program. Students must meet the course and major GPA criteria according to the department offering their declared major.
