Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Curtin College

We offer research degrees in most disciplines for those who hold a master's degree or a bachelor's degree with first or upper-second class honours, where doctoral research candidates uncover new knowledge through the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories, or the innovative reinterpretation of known data and established ideas, using an in-depth understanding of theories and concepts to develop practical solutions for real-world problems. A higher degree by research differs from other postgraduate degrees in that at least two-thirds of the program must involve research, with the main part of the work taking the form of a thesis-written under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s)-that, in the opinion of examiners, must be a substantial original contribution to knowledge while demonstrating the candidate's capacity to conceive, design, and complete independent research. Throughout their studies, faculties provide candidates with access to equipment and resources to support their research, along with financial assistance to attend appropriate local and international conferences.
