Mental Health Counseling Degree Overview

Keiser’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling provides comprehensive preparation for professional practice as a counselor in several career settings, from private practice to rehabilitation facilities. Students apply insights from classroom instruction in carefully supervised practical experiences in the field. Core coursework integrates mental health counseling theories and approaches, principles and practices of diagnosis, evidence-based treatments, and strategies for referral, prevention, and advocacy to meet the needs of diverse clients.

The mission of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is to prepare ethical and well-rounded mental health counselors who function in a variety of settings to help a diverse clientele achieve positive personal change. Requirement for GRE scores may be waived for applicants with an overall undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher, or completion of a previous graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

Relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology, behavioral science, social work, human development, or related program from an accredited institution.

For students with a CGPA of 3.0 and above, no GRE is required to pursue this master’s in clinical mental health counseling program.

The applicant must present a TOEFL score of 500 or higher on a paper-based examination, a score of 173 on a computer-based examination, an internet-based score (iBT) of 61, or an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher.
