The Film Music Scoring concentration is an exciting and the newest of our music concentrations. The Bachelor of Music in Film Scoring is one-of-a-kind in Michigan, and provides excellent training for working in the field right after graduation, or it offers great preparation for graduate school.

Compose music for visual media in a collaborative environment to produce works from concept to finished product. Our composition faculty— composers with recognized works— are commissioned to write for film, orchestra, choral, band, and chamber music. They are dedicated to helping you find your “voice” and developing your unique style of music composition. You also will be in many classes with other music majors, giving you a rich and diverse experience.

Unique Features

Course of study with options built into the degree

You love music but don’t want to teach or perform

Great foundation for those preparing for graduate school in other fields of study, such as library science or music therapy

Small class sizes equal more specialized attention and time devoted to you

Industry standard music technology lab for composing, recording, arranging, and editing

Excellent vocal and instrumental ensemble opportunities for the non-performing major

Our programs, performing opportunities, ensembles, and department activities are designed to prepare you to serve your school, church, or community.

Studies in music fall into two categories; Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) concentrations have a strong liberal arts foundation, and Bachelor of Music (B.MUS.) concentrations are weighted more heavily in music courses.

The B.A. concentrations include General Music and Music Management. The B.MUS. concentrations include Church Music; Film Scoring; Music Education (leading to the Michigan JQ K-12 endorsement) and Performance.

Piano Pedagogy, Film Scoring, and Musical Theatre are available as certificate programs, or can be added to a B.A. or B.MUS degree.
