Why Study Management Information Systems at Northwest

The management information systems (MIS) program is an interdisciplinary program designed for individuals interested in business and technology. MIS majors focus on four areas: general management information systems, cybersecurity, data analytics and web development. Students gain knowledge of business, software development and management within computing.

MIS: General

MIS, an instrument for generating and storing information, emphasizes the value of data collection through technology. This general study focuses on creating and maintaining technology while maintaining a smooth streamlining for businesses and organizations. Students can look forward to classes like web development, visualization big data and digital forensics.

MIS: Cybersecurity

The need for cybersecurity has grown immensely over the years. Businesses want to make sure their data is confidential and safe. This is where you come in! According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in the information security field is projected to grow 35% between 2021 and 2031. That's huge!

MIS: Data Analytics

An emphasis in data analytics focuses on the trends and patterns of computerized data. This comes in handy when businesses and organizations wish to report projections. Students can look forward to classes like introduction to data science and data mining, visualization and business intelligence and analytics.

MIS: Web Development

Web development is the blend between business and creativity. An organization cannot have an internet presence without the assistance of a web developer! Students can look forward to classes like web development and developing web applications and services.

Freshman admission for international students is evaluated on an individual basis. Admission is offered to students who possess academic qualifications equivalent to those required for domestic first-time freshmen. Consideration is given to the courses taken and grades received in secondary school, as well as to results of school leaving examinations and certificates.

A minimum high school grade point average of 2.00 or "C" average and;

A college-preparatory curriculum in secondary school, including courses in mathematics, science, language and social studies.
