This programme leads to both an academic award and professional qualification.
It will prepare you for contemporary Health Visiting practice and entry to the third part of the professional NMC register.
While studying, you’ll acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical experience required to promote and improve the health and wellbeing of children, young people, families, and communities.
Professional Approval and Accreditation
The PgDip is professionally recognised by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and developed in line with the NMC's Standards of Proficiency for Specialist Community Public Health Nurses. Our PgDip is also accredited through UNICEF UK Baby Friendly, with the standards implemented across the programme.
Course Highlights
This programme is delivered through a blend of 50% theory and 50% practical learning – with two modules delivered on campus and the remaining four through online learning and in the practice-based setting within NHS Scotland Health Boards.
Placements will be determined by employing NHS Health Boards. The student learning journey is supported in practice by a Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor.

Career Prospects
On completion of this programme, you’ll be eligible for employment as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor) and will have competency in:

This programme also offers the option to continue your studies through the completion of a research and enquiry-based dissertation, which will allow you to exit with MSc Health Studies (Community Health) award.
