This one-year top-up programme has been created in response to the increasing privatisation of many public services and the development of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS), with the aim of addressing the skills gap faced by the private and voluntary sector tendering for and delivering these services. This is a unique programme where you will not only learn about the significance of NOMS but also gain an understanding of how the service monitors and controls security, manages offenders and expands the provision of interventions to reduce re-offending.This is a full-time course with around ten hours scheduled for taught sessions. This includes lectures and seminars. Therefore it is expected that you will use the remainder of the time for your independent study and work placement. The learning outcomes seek to improve your employability by extending your intellectual and transferable skills and particularly by encouraging a focus on independent learning to solve real-life projects. These skills will equip you for a wide range of careers in the security and offender management industry. The course will run with a minimum of six students. In 2016-17 we enrolled six students on this new programme. This course is delivered at the Derby College Roundhouse Campus on two days per week. This course is regulated by HEFCE and awarded by the University of Derby. All students get access to the UDO online platform, the Derby College Learning Resources Centre, the University of Derby library, and the College’s Moodle pages.
