A TASTE OF WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE

How to deliver outstanding customer service

Besides learning all about food and beverage service, develop your communication skills too. We’ll also teach you about the different roles in hotels, restaurants and workflows. Find out about the conference and event industry, and how to set up for functions and events.

Build your wine and beer knowledge

Local breweries will teach you about beer production and you’ll learn all about the different types of beer and their characteristics. Visit a vineyard, where you’ll be taught about wine varietals and how to talk about wine and food pairing like a pro.

Weekly Cafe Visits

Weekly cafe visits mean you’ll experience different customer service, and enjoy coffee and hot chocolates galore. Besides coffee, you‘ll also be taught about safe food handling.

Menu design

Get up to speed with restaurant menus – from casual to formal menus to gourmet food trucks. Learn about menu design, how to present food and beverage options to showcase the products well and discover how different wine and beverage menus should reflect the venue's atmosphere.

Liquor licence requirements and get certified

Learn the laws and get your liquor Licence Controller Qualification, making yourself invaluable to employers. The units you’ll cover are 16705, host responsibility requirements as a duty manager and 4646, knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.

Support to get a real job

Our careers team can put you in touch with the best hospitality employers, including top hotels, cafes and restaurants. Applicants without formal qualifications must meet the minimum requirements of the NZMA entry assessment.

If English is your second language, we may get you to sit an English Language Assessment.

If you are an international student, you also need to have an English level of 5.0 IELTS or equivalent with no band score lower than 5.0.
