Become a leader in the agrifood industry

Massey’s agricultural economics major will enable you to become a sought-after agribusiness professional who can analyse company and market behaviours, structures, the competition and regulatory issues.

What will you learn?

You will learn what works and what doesn’t in agribusiness and why. What influences consumer demand and how to predict it.

In the Bachelor of AgriCommerce (Agricultural Economics) you’ll gain the applied economics and agribusiness skills and competencies necessary to analyse markets and policy regulations. For example, you’ll find out how to price fresh milk, learn about the supply and demand of wine, international trade partnerships and incentives and the regulations required to protect New Zealand’s clean green image.

Agricultural economics is the study of applied economics in relation to optimising the production and distribution of food. This has applications for farmers, the industry and broader government.

Practical experience while you study

During your degree you will gain a huge amount of practical experience. This experience will include at least 26 weeks of paid employment undertaken in agriculture and related sectors. That will give you an advantage with potential employers.
