This English-taught professional bachelor's programme prepares you for a career in the international leisure industry. In 3 or 4 years’ time you will learn how to create memorable and meaningful experiences which contribute to a more beautiful world.

The Leisure & Events Management programme is delivered thematically. The programme consist of an ‘international classroom’, which involves a mix of Dutch and non-Dutch (international) students in one classroom. The regular programme takes four years, but there is a possibility to do a 3-year programme, which is referred to as the fast track (or accelerated programme).

After completing the first year you have the opportunity to choose one of the following tracks:

International event management: Brands are doing everything they can to engage their customers and to set themselves apart from their competitors. This provides opportunities for the event industry. Events themselves can also be or become strong brands, such as Tomorrowland. There is a strong need for a new generation of event managers who are capable of responding to these developments. The International Event Management track will give you a deeper insight into the event industry.

The attraction and theme park industry is rapidly growing and changing. Museums and science centres no longer focus exclusively on education, but are adding entertainment and experiential elements to their offerings in the form of themed exhibitions, interaction and attractions. Zoos are building climbing parks; shopping centres are adding value to the shopping experience by means of, for instance, aquariums and simulation games.

Social Innovation involves people or organisations working together towards creative solutions to problems and leads to surprising, new business opportunities. In this process, clever use is made of existing resources and people’s enthusiasm.

International Leisure Management: This broad-based track addresses various leisure industry sectors. The starting point is that the different elements, such as events, cultural venues, multifunctional leisure locations (e.g. Amsterdam Arena) and attraction parks are interconnected rather than separate from each other.

The regular track of this programme takes four years. However, with a propriate pre-education a three-year track is available.

  • The 3-year track for students who already have a vwo diploma, a ‘Hochschulreifezeugnis’ (Abitur) or a comparable pre-university education
  • The tailor-made track for 'havo' graduates: You will start your course of study at De Rooi Pannen (mbo level) and you will proceed at Breda University of Applied Sciences in year 2 of the regular 4-year programme.

After your bachelor

As a leisure manager, you may take up a career in –for instance- theatres, music labels, sports centres or city marketing. You may be in charge of the operational management of a company, the development of new leisure products, or the organisation of exhibitions, conferences or events.

Once you have earned your bachelor's degree, you may choose to continue on a professional Breda University of Applied Sciences master’s programme, for example, the Master Imagineering. Breda University of Applied Sciences also offers an academic Master of Science Leisure and Tourism Studies. Your bachelor's degree, together with a successfully completed pre-master's track, will give you access to this master's programme.
