This course is a five-year full-time course. The Chinese Language and Literature Program is run by the Chinese Department and provides students with comprehensive and in-depth language and literature training. The Chinese Language Education Program is administered by the College of Education to provide students with training in language education theory and skills.
Students in this course are required to take 155 credits. Students who have completed the required credits and meet the requirements of the University (including both the Chinese Department and the College of Education) are awarded a double degree in Bachelor of Arts (Chinese Language Studies) and Bachelor of Education (Chinese Language Education).
The Bachelor of Education degree in this course is equivalent to a diploma in graduate education. Graduates are no longer required to take a diploma in education and can teach in primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.
Graduating students will meet the government's requirements for the new language teachers in the following three aspects:
- Chinese subject knowledge
- Language ability
- Chinese teaching method
Graduates of this course will have a solid foundation in Chinese and have a good understanding of Chinese language, literature, educational theory and skills. Graduates can engage in primary and secondary education, publishing, mass communication, research, etc., and can continue their studies on the basis of existing studies.
Course Objectives:
- Cultivate students' Chinese language cultivation, mastering the theoretical knowledge of language and literature;
- Improve the skills of students in reading, writing, listening, speaking, etc., in order to achieve the language proficiency level of Chinese language teachers;
- Cultivate students' Chinese language teaching skills and help build confidence in teaching;
- Train students to apply the lessons and instructional design theories and techniques to school curriculum and instructional design;
- Cultivate classmates to become educators with professional knowledge and spirit.
