The School of Human Nutrition offers three different options in the MSc (Applied) program:

The MSc(Applied) Project option is a mainly course-based masters with a project that may be in the areas of clinical, community and international or experimental nutrition.

The MSc(Applied) Practicum option is a mainly course-based masters with a clinical practicum to gain advanced expertise in an area of clinical nutrition. Admission is restricted to practicing dietitians with at least 6 months’ experience.

The MSc(Applied) Dietetics Credentialing option is an opportunity for applicants with a background in nutrition to take graduate level courses and stages in the domains of interpersonal communication, clinical nutrition, and social and biological sciences, with several courses specifically focused on dietetics practice. This option leads to credentialing as a PD/PDt. A qualifying year may be necessary.

The MSc (Applied) Human Nutrition program is a course-based, non-thesis masters program. It allows students to further develop knowledge and expertise in nutrition and related inter-disciplinary fields. Admission assumes a background that includes biochemistry, mammalian physiology, human nutrition and nutrition through life. Some of these prerequisites may be taken concurrently with the graduate program. Students are required to complete 29 credits in course work in advanced Nutrition or related disciplines plus 16 credits related to a research project.

This MSc Applied program is a course-based, non-thesis Masters program suitable only for registered dietitians. This is not a route to credentialing as a dietitian, rather advanced training in a selected area of nutritional care.

The Master of Science Applied Program in Human Nutrition (Dietetics Credentialing) at McGill offers a diverse learning environment that prepares graduates for professional careers as dietitians. Upon completion of this program, a student is eligible to register and practice as a dietitian in Canada and the degree is recognized internationally.
