This unique program will provide an opportunity for dentists to pursue higher education and research in the field of Pediatric Dentistry with an emphasis on prevention and public health in underserved and disadvantaged communities (Aboriginal, rural, and urban poor).

This masters program will provide eligibility to take the examinations of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD).

During the first two years, patient care will be provided in a modern 5-chair pediatric dentistry graduate clinic with state-of-the-art computerized diagnostic equipment. Graduate residents will also have the opportunity to treat pediatric dental patients in the hospital setting and in local community outreach clinics.

The third year of the program involves placement and research in rural and remote areas.

The current foci of research within the Preventive Dental Sciences Department are:

  • Patient management
  • Caries risk
  • Oral health promotion
  • Early childhood caries
  • Fluoride treatment
  • Use of sealants
  • Public health pediatric dentistry
  • Preventive and interceptive orthodontics
  • Preventive programs for underserved communities
  • The biology of tooth movement

The Pediatric Dentistry program involves coursework as well as an intensive research program. The entire third year of the program involves placement and research in rural and remote areas.

This program will provide eligibility to take the examinations of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD).

Other English language requirements accepted: TOEFL paper based score of 550; Achieve minimum scores of 4.5 in Reading, 4.5 in Listening, and 4.0 in Writing on the CanTEST (Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees); Achieve a minimum score of 6.5 based upon the Academic Module on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System); Achieve a minimum score of 80 on the MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) offered by the University of Michigan; Achieve a minimum grade of C in the University of Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English.Achieve a score of 60 or more in the CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment); Achieve a minimum of 58% in the Pearson Test of English.Achieve a minimum of 65% in Level 5 of the direct entry English program (also known as Intensive Academic English Program orIAEP), as taught by the English Language Centre of the University of Manitoba.

DMD/DDS degree or its equivalent, and at least one year of general practice or hospital residency.

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL - Achieve a minimum Internet-based -iBT (86; minimum score of 20 in each of reading, writing, listening and speaking categories)
  • IELTS - Achieve a minimum score of 6.5 in the Academic Module
  • PTE Academic - minimum 61 overall
