The Department of Mathematics & Statistics has 17 mathematics and statistics faculty members who wish to work with graduate students in their area of expertise and research. Current research areas within our department include: Algebra, Analysis, Applied Mathematics, Biostatistics, Combinatorics, Mathematical Physics, Probability, Statistics, and Topology.

A Doctoral Degree is essential for anyone wishing to work in academia, and very useful for highly-qualified specialists in Industry and Government. The Doctor of Philosophy is a research degree, and doctoral studies are an essential step in the preparation of a research scientist.

A Master's degree, or equivalent, from a recognized university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study. A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in the Master's degree. Demonstrated ability for independent thought, advanced study, and research. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Fully qualified: Overall score of 86 with minimum scores of 19 in each area; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Fully qualified: Overall score of 6.5 with no score below 6.0 in each area; CanTEST (Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees): Fully qualified: Overall score of 4.5 with minimum scores of 4.5 in each area; PTE (Pearson Test of English): Fully qualified: Overall score of 63 with minimum scores of 59 in each area; University of Regina: Intensive ESL Advanced Level (ESL 50)l Plus completion of Academic Writing Elective A - Minimum score of 60% ; U-PREP 2: University Preparation 2 from the U of S Language Centre - Minimum score of 75% ; CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language): Minimum score of 70%, with minimum individual scores of 60
